National Event Services

Building an app and management system for a medical company

National Event Services (NES) provides EMTs and registered medical professionals to events such as sports arenas and music venues. As the Lead UX designer, I was tasked with creating an app that works on both mobile and tablet as well as a content management system.

CLIENT NEEDS

Moving from a paper system to a digital one

National Event Services (NES) uses an older system to do their scheduling and everything else is done on paper. As you can image, managing hundreds of EMTs and thousands of patients over a few decades, can leave you with a lot of documents to manage.

What needs to be accomplished:
Create an app where health care workers can manage their shifts, communicate, and gather patient information. Sometimes patients will use an ipad to entire information.
Create a space for employees to manage employee information, event information, and dispatch health care professionals.

USER RESEARCH

Understanding a very niche market with a lot of specific needs

There are three different audiences to consider when approaching this project: On-site health care workers, patients, and staff. Through a lot of discussion with the client, I created a user journey that helps me understand where and how much paperwork employees have to fill out.

SOLUTION

A mobile app and desktop site that brings together all their needs in one place

While going through the user journey, I was able to bring all of their paperwork into a digital space. From patient reports to user profiles, everything can coexist in one digital format. The employee app is also optimized for tablets.

BRANDING

Trying to make a medical app engaging

As a client, NES emphasized wanting the app to feel almost playful. Many medical apps feel stale and they want to avoid that. Also they have an employee base that ranges anywhere from 18 to 50 and wanted the app to feel playful. I took inspiration from Duolingo and the App Store when designing. I incorporated the blue in their current brand and stuck with primary colors otherwise.

THE APP

App Features

The NES app eliminates the need for paperwork. All previous paper files have been replaced with in app features.

Shift Management

Health care employees can select request and trade shifts within the app. As well as clock in and out and manage shift preferences.

Patient Reports

Rather than filling out patient health information on paper, all records will be entered and submitted via the app.

Equipment Checks

Employees can now submit checks for vehicle and medical equipment via the app .

Active Shift Messaging

While on shift, employees can message one another through the in app messaging system. To avoid confusion, messaging closes 24 hours after the shift is completed.

CONTENT MANAGEMENT

Making everything easy to manage

With so much information constantly coming in and the need to hold health care information for up to 10 years for legal compliance, I created a simple content management system.

Scheduling Management

Staff can create events, manage schedules, and verify any changes that may come up. This makes it easier for staff to assure that all needs for every event are met.

Patient Management

Patient information is not only HIPPA compliant, but also easy to organize and find if needed.

Dispatch Dashboard

Dispatchers have the ability to monitor where medical employees are and administer any help or resources with ease.

Form Management

With the massive amount of forms and information that needs to be created and saved for each event, I've created easy ways to filter and organize files.
